Congratulations to our members Gottfried Steinmann of Germany and Iván Fernández Goya of Spain on their awards at Israel '98.  Gottfried obtained a Large Vermeil for his exhibit "The Scout Movement - an idea goes around the World" and Ivan was awarded a Vermeil for his collection "Scouting the educative way".  Last December Frederick Lawrence obtained a gold award at Indepex ‘ 97 in India for his exhibit "Scouting on Stamps Classics".  It is good to see some of our members obtaining high awards at International Stamp shows, as the displaying of good Scout exhibits helps us to promote our hobby and we hope encourage more people to join our club.  Please keep me informed of your successes at International Exhibitions.

On my recent travels I have visited Hungary where I spent a most enjoyable day with our member József Zimmerman and to Romania where I met Dan Cosma who joined our Club last year. (I do notice in auction catalogues that the old spelling of Romania is still being used.  At one well known London auction house they used both Roumania and Rumania in the same catalogue, but as every England football supporter will know we lost against Romania!).  In September I will be attending Praga ‘ 98 in the Czech Republic followed by the Euro-Scout exhibition at Schwanberg, Austria when many of the best European Scout collections will be on show.  This promises to be a first class weekend, and you are really encouraged to attend this exhibition.  In October I will be in Milan for Italia ‘ 98 when I hope to meet a number of our members and finally to Madrid in November for the 5th National Scout & Guide Philatelic Exhibition.

It is only a few months before the 19th World Jamboree opens in Chile.  To date I have not heard of any of our members attending, but if you will be there please let me know, and also the Editor would appreciate an article for the bulletin on the postal arrangements for the Jamboree.  Many thanks to Manfred Rauschenberger from the German Club ArGe for translating his article on the Lithuanian Scout Movement into English and allowing us to reproduce this in our bulletin.  In the next bulletin there will be an article by him on Latvia.
